Solutions Recovery's Facility Dog
Gunther is our full time Facility Dog at Solutions Recovery, providing comfort, connection, and support to individuals and families throughout our recovery community. Whether he is greeting visitors, sitting alongside someone during a difficult day, or attending community events, Gunther helps create a welcoming environment where people feel safe and supported.
Gunther's Story
Gunther's journey began through the Journey Together Service Dog Program, an innovative program that partners with incarcerated handlers at Oshkosh Correctional Institution to train future service and facility dogs. Through dedicated training, structure, and care, Gunther developed the skills and temperament needed to support individuals in a variety of settings while also playing a role in a program centered on growth, responsibility, and second chances.

In March 2025, Gunther joined the Solutions Recovery team as our full time Facility Dog. Since then, he has become a valued member of our recovery community, offering comfort, companionship, and connection to individuals navigating some of life's most difficult challenges. Whether sitting quietly beside someone during a tough conversation, greeting visitors at the door, or bringing a smile to someone's face on a difficult day, Gunther has a unique ability to help people feel safe, welcomed, and supported.

How Gunther Helps
At the Jail
Gunther helps create a calm and welcoming environment for individuals participating in the STAR Program at the Winnebago County Jail. His presence can reduce anxiety, encourage engagement, and help people feel more comfortable as they begin conversations about recovery and change.
At the Recovery Center
Whether greeting visitors at the door, attending groups, or spending time with participants, Gunther helps make the Recovery Center feel safe, welcoming, and supportive. His ability to connect with people often opens the door to meaningful conversations and deeper engagement in recovery.
Supports Sober Living Participants
Gunther regularly spends time with individuals in our sober living program, providing comfort, companionship, and emotional support. Through life's challenges and milestones, he offers a steady presence that helps participants feel connected, encouraged, and at home.
